William Austin Skeen peacefully passed away on November 15, 2024 in Leesburg, Florida at the age of 87. Born on March 18, 1937 in Kentuck, West Virginia, Austin led a life of dedication, education and love.
Austin's early life in Kenna, West Virginia was marked by academic excellence, culminating in his graduation as valedictorian from Ripley High School. He pursued higher learning at Morris Harvey College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Marketing. This foundation paved the way for a significant career with the Social Security Administration as a disability examiner. Committed to advancing his education, Austin earned a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Tennessee with support from his employer. He later joined the IRS as a Revenue Officer, exemplifying his adaptability and skill.
Austin also proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany, embodying his lifelong commitment to service. For 66 years, Austin shared his life with his beloved wife, Mary Jane Skeen. Their enduring marriage was filled with travel, adventures and the shared pleasures of retirement, particularly fishing and gardening in the scenic embrace of their Florida home.
Known for his gentle demeanor and sharp mind, Austin's legacy is reflected in the lives he touched and the family he cherished. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane, who was an integral part of his life and memories.
As we remember William Austin Skeen, we honor a man whose life was a testament to dedication, love and the pursuit of knowledge. His impact and the warmth of his spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private burial will be held in Goshen Cemetery, Kenna, WV.
