William Frederick Pauley, 64, of South Charleston, passed into the arms of his heavenly father on March 6, 2014. He was born June 22, 1949 in Charleston, the youngest son of William Hayward Pauley and Meredith Evelyn Brown Pauley. After graduating from Logan High School, Fred continued his education at Marshall University where he was a brother of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and active in Campus Crusade for Christ. He went on for graduate degrees from Marshall University, Tennessee Temple University and University of Connecticut, where he earned his Ph.D. His career in education began at the elementary and secondary levels, culminating in his position as Professor of Elementary and Secondary Education at the Marshall University Graduate College. Fred will be remembered for his easy-going spirit and his light-hearted personality. He was greatly admired by his students. He enjoyed a wide variety of sporting events and tournaments, especially fishing and golf. He was also an avid runner who completed the Boston Marathon. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace Narvaiz Pauley; son, William Mitchell Pauley and his wife, Rachel of Rutledge, VT; Mitch's mother, Mellonee Green of Sturbridge, MA; brothers, Paul Franklin Pauley and wife, Dorinne Walker Pauley of Edgewood, KY and Larry Edward Pauley and wife, Sue Carroll Pauley of Monroe, NC; nieces, Meredith Anne Larison, and husband, Greg of Florence, KY, Shelby Jo Pauley of Crestview Hills, KY, Stefanie Anne Shealey and husband, Burnet Dresden Shealey of Landrum, SC and Laura Alison Lockey and husband, William Revers Lockey, X of Fort Mill, SC; and great-nieces and great-nephews, McKenna, Danielle and Coleman of Florence, KY, Quincy and Jensen of Crestview Hills, KY, Cooper of Landrum SC and Will of Fort Mill, SC. He will also be greatly missed by innumerable friends and extended family members across the country. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
