Wilbur Marion "Red" Cavender, Jr., 76, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2010 at Genesis Health Care Cedar Ridge. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston and was an Army Veteran. He was a truck driver for 34 years driving for McLean, Coastal, Carbide, retiring form Chemical Leaman Tank Lines in 1993. He was born January 6, 1934, the son of the late Wilbur and Maudie Cavender of Charleston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Underwood and two son-in-laws, Theodore Hudson and Michael Swiney. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sylvia Faye Taylor Cavender; two daughters, Sharon Lynn Cavender Hudson of Charleston and Karen Ann Cavender Swiney of Sutton; four granddaughters, Jessica Rae Cavender of Marietta, GA, Krista Rae-Lynn Hudson, Alexis RaeLynn Hudson and Alyssa Dawnelle Hudson, all of Charleston; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer Greene and husband Petty Officer First Class William E. Greene of Eure, NC, Mica Green of Charleston, and Seth Swiney of Teays Valley; two great grandchildren, Alexandria and Adrian Cavender of Marietta, GA; four step great-grandchildren, Jenna and Charlotte Greene of Eure, NC, Cole Green of Charleston, and Jaxon Swiney of Teays Valley. He is also survived by sisters, Nelma Petry and husband Emmett of Charleston, Janet Clendenin of Charleston and Lila Harding and husband Jake of Charleston; brother-in-law, Hobert Underwood of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling, camping and loved NASCAR. He also loved and appreciated his family very much. Red was a member of Charleston Mountain Mission Church and a former member of Kanawha Two-Mile Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
