Wanda Lea Burdette, 88, of Charleston passed away June 29, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House. Wanda lived in Baltimore, Maryland for many years before moving back to Charleston. She was one of the Rosie the Riveters, having riveted airplane wings during WWII. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Wintz Burdette; sons, Lanny Joe Burdette, killed in action while defending our country in Vietnam and Larry Gene Burdette; sisters, Opal Jones, Betty Frederick and Goldie Ernestine Canterbury; brothers, Billy Gene Carter, Clifford Carter and Junior Carter. Surviving her is her brother, Keith Carter and wife Betty of Charleston; and grandchildren, Rebecca Wright and Bradley Burdette, both of Baltimore. Funeral Services will be 12:00 Noon Monday, July 2, 2012 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Kevan Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in John Beane Cemetery, Sissonville. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services also on Monday at the funeral home.
