Verna Jane Johnson Haning Verna Jane Johnson Haning, 88, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully November 24, 2012 after a brief illness. Heaven welcomed a very special person, and for those who knew her and loved her she is exactly where she wanted to be - at Home with her Lord, her husband and her mom. Born August 27, 1924 in Liberty, WV to Losha Bell Hill and Dessie Ivan Johnson, Verna was one of ten children. Verna married Rev. Conrad Lester Haning September 3, 1943 during her senior year in high school and then graduated from Ripley High School in 1944 where she was the Student Body Secretary. Verna and Conrad had one son, Keith Haning, and were married 61 years before Conrad's death December 13, 2004. Besides her role as a devoted pastor's wife, mother and home maker, the most important thing in Verna's life was her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and serving Him through her service to others. She never missed an opportunity to witness to the faithfulness of God and always made sure to ask if you knew where you would spend eternity. She & Conrad ministered together in many churches in and around the Charleston area. They loved visiting the sick and the shut-ins and considered it a privilege to pray for those in need, to cook them a meal or just to spend time with them. A long time resident of South Charleston, WV, Verna leaves behind her son, Rodney Keith Haning and his wife BJ, also of The Villages, FL; granddaughter, Kelli Jo Hill and her husband Benn, great grandchildren Ruth Elizabeth Hill and Micah Uzziah Hill, all from Monroe, NC; granddaughter, Tina Lyn Braswell and her husband Darren, and great grandson Ethan James Braswell, all from Indian Trail, NC; sister Violet Johnson Harding and husband Don of Sissonville, WV; brother Verrell Clay Johnson of Huntington, WV; Sister-in-Law, Betty Joann Haning of The Villages, FL, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends - all whom she loved and prayed for. Her Bible was well read and worn, her focus was sure and steady, and her heart and spirit were ready. Well done, good and faithful servant. She is absent from the body but in the presence of God. Her life made a difference here, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with David Bess officiating. Burial will be in Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty, WV. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
