Thomas Michael "Noz" Nozica, 69, of South Charleston passed away October 6, 2011 after a short battle with cancer. Tom graduated from Powhatan High School and received his bachelor's and master's degree from Ohio State University, where he played baseball. He coached baseball and soccer at Muskingham College, Howard University and lastly, at the University of Charleston for 43 years. Tom was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and was inducted into The University of Charleston Hall of Fame in 1990. He was an member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and American Baseball Coaches Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Lilly Nozica; children, Jody Wilkinson and her husband Mike of Charleston, Annie Nozica of Ardmore, PA. and J.T. Nozica of South Charleston; granddaughter, Krisanna; mother, Julia Nozica of Powhatan Point, Ohio; several cousins; and his black lab Zeke. A celebration of Tom's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at Appalachian Power Park, Charleston with Alumni Jeff Barnes officiating. Burial and graveside service will be immediately following at Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, Ohio at 4:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the University of Charleston Rotunda. The family requests memorial contributions in Tom's name to the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
