Sylvia C. Shafer, 90, of Charleston went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2024 in Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.

Sylvia was born in Hinton on July 15, 1933 to the late Clem and Evalyn Carson Pringle.  In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Ferrell; and her husband, Vaughn Shafer.

Sylvia retired from C & P Telephone.  She then served as the Director of the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association where she advocated for Animal Rights, and was on the statewide spay and neutering Committee.  Sylvia was instrumental in West Virginia Animal Rights Legislation.

Sylvia was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Charleston, where she served as Deaconess, and various other boards and committees.

Left to cherish her memory are five daughters at heart.

Service will be Noon Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1401 W. Washington Street, Charleston with Pastor Don Biram officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, or to an Animal Shelter of your choice.
