Surrounded by her family on May 25, 2017, Sue Bartlett Eckhart passed away peacefully at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia. Sue was born on July 9, 1929 to Will Fred and Richard Peyton Bartlett in Parkersburg, West Virginia. In 1948, she graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland, Maryland and was considered a Campus Leader with the "three-fold gift of brains, talent and beauty." Sue's education pursuits culminated in a Master's Degree in Psychology from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
Sue applied her degree and empathic, altruistic nature to aiding those in need at the Allegany Health Department in Cumberland, Maryland where she worked as a Counselor until 1990. After retired, Sue generously volunteered as grief counselor for Hospice of Garrett County.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard "Dick" Bartlett, her sister JoAnn Knudsen, her husband and love of her life, Jonathan Eckhart, and her grandson Zachary Eckhart. She leaves her three children and numerous grandchildren: her eldest son Don Sensabaugh, Jr. (Sheryl) and their children Sara, Zach, Jessica, Dani and grandson, A.J. Nguyen; her daughter Sheri Sensabaugh (Russ Betz) and their two children Chelsea and Fleming; her youngest, David Sensabaugh (Nikole) and their four children, Christina, Marissa, Weston and Abigail.
Twice blessed, Sue was also stepmother and step grandmother to Jonathan Eckhart's four children and seven grandchildren: Jonathan "Brad" Eckhart (Joyce) and his two children Zachary (deceased) and Megan; Debra Simpson (George) and her two sons Alexander and Andrew; Jay Eckhart (Susan) and his three children Jayson (Jenny), daughter Ella; Sean and Miranda Asbury (Josiah); Penny Eckhart.
A truly kind hearted, generous person, Sue will always be remembered for her god-given talent of making everyone she met feel appreciated, loved, and a part of her own family. A celebration of her life will be held June 3, at 3:30 pm at her beloved home on Deep Creek Lake, 2001 Marsh Hill Road, McHenry, Maryland.
