Shirley E. Flowers Stone, 71, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, after a short illness, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on August 17, 1954, Shirley was a loving sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, humor, and compassion touched everyone who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of Emmett and Nina Lee Flowers, who preceded her in death, along with her brothers Eddie and Dan Flowers, and sisters Wilda Kessinger and Debbie Morton.

Shirley is survived by her beloved sister and best friend, Pat Flowers Taylor and her husband Darrell “Shotgun” Taylor. Although she never had children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own and was a second mother to many.

She is survived by her nieces Cricket (Floyd), Laura (Kim), Danielle, and Sarah, and her nephews Glen (Tabby) and Scott (Nikki). Her great-nephews Morgan, Zach, Little Glen, Blake, Zane, Andrew, Izaiah, Aiden and Shannon, and her great-nieces Zoey, Kennidi and Jaylynn, held a special place in her heart. Her great-great-nephews Brentley, Maverick, and Carson, and great-great-nieces Avery, Hallie and Payton, lovingly knew her as “JoJo,” a name that represented the endless love, joy, and warmth she shared with them.

For many years, Shirley worked as a waitress at Joey’s and The Fifth Quarter, where her quick wit and loving personality made her unforgettable. Later, she became a devoted caregiver, always showing the compassion and dedication that came so naturally to her. Shirley’s family was her world, and the memories, laughter, and love she shared will live on forever.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Activity Building at Kanawha Two Mile Gospel Tabernacle. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor Shirley, share memories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. A meal and refreshments will be served following the service. Those who are able are invited to bring a covered dish and stay for a time of fellowship and remembrance.
