Obituary

Ruth R. Burdette Rucker Ruth R. Burdette Rucker, 88, of Elkview went home to be with the Lord, October 7, 2011, after a short illness. She attended Jordan Light Baptist Church until her health failed. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Emmor Rucker who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Roberts Burdette; brother William Burdette; sister, Pauline Rucker; and step-sons, Robert and Clyde Rucker. Although she had no children by birth, she was like a mother to Ron Rucker and his wife Leaile of Jasper, Georgia, and their daughter, Amy Martin also of Jasper; and Donnie Rucker and his wife, Janette of Charleston, and their son, Jonathan Rucker of Elkview. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and those great-great-grand-nieces and nephews. What a joy Emma and Kenzie, were living next door, and their many surprise visits that brightened her day. What a blessing Aunt Ruth was to this family, children loved her, adults learned from her, and there was never any question that she was on your side. She often would say, "Life is hard but you make do!" The one we all heard often was, "I love you too." Surviving are her sister, Frankie Taylor of Spencer; brother, Bobby R. Burdette and his wife, Doris of Spencer; several nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Faye Saunders; step-daughter-in-law, Janet Rucker; step-grandchildren, and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. It was an honor for Janette and Donnie to be great caregivers to Aunt Ruth her last months. A grateful family honors Janette and Donnie. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Jordan Light Baptist Church, with Pastor Benny Bess officiating. Burial will follow in the Jonah F. Rucker Family Cemetery, Elkview. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday, also at Jordan Light Baptist Church. Special "Thank You" to the Hospice staff, both in-home, and at Hubbard Hospice House for their dedicated care and love shown to our family.
