Roy Stephen Rule Roy Stephen Rule, 63, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord as a new child of God, November 20, 2010, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after an extended illness, surrounded by his family. Steve was born August 16, 1947 to the late William Fouche Rule, and Thelma J. Snyder Rule, and was raised at Queen Shoals near Clendenin. He was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School, Class of 1965, where he was a pitcher for the Hoover Huskies baseball team in his senior year. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in Vietnam and aboard the USS Essex. He was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education at Watts Elementary with 18 years of service, and delivered daily newspapers for 17 years in the West Side area. Steve loved bowling and was on a league at the Boulevard Rec. Center in Charleston for several years. He and his wife, Susan celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on November 16, at Hubbard Hospice House, with their family. Steve is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Brian Thaxton and Jason Thaxton both of Charleston; daughters, Stephanie & Kristi Rule both of Charleston; mother and step-father, Thelma and Tom Bowen of Clendenin and Powelton; Grandchildren, Abagail & Benjamin Thaxton, Nyah Jean Hughes Thaxton; brother, Hoy Daniel and wife, Kathy Rule of Clendenin; sisters, Joyce Ann and husband, Herb Gandee of Alabama, Barbara K. Dixon of Clendenin, Donna Sue Hall of Parkersburg, and Joan E. Bowles, of Weems, Virginia; several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November, 23 at the funeral home with Pastor Allen Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Koontz Cemetery, Clendenin, with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post No. 61 Clendenin.
