Roger Paul Parsons, 68, of Charleston died July 9, 2012. He was born December 12, 1943 at the farm house on Kanawha Two Mile to Elmer Lawrence and Odessa Redman Parsons. He was the last of 14 children to bless the Parsons family. He spent a happy childhood on the family farm playing with friends and siblings. He loved to play baseball and amassed a large collection of baseball cards. In his later years he loved listening to baseball games on his radio. Roger attended West Virginia schools and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School at the age of 16 and received an education scholarship from the state of West Virginia. He received his BS degree from West Virginia State College at the age of 20 and began teaching math at Hayes Junior High School in St. Albans. Shortly thereafter he was promoted to Assistant Principal and served in that capacity for several years. While working at Hayes, he attended night school earning a Master's degree from Marshall University. After receiving his Master's degree, he was promoted to the position of Principal at South Charleston Junior High School. After retiring from a career in education he enjoyed working for Youngs Floral and having a beautiful vegetable garden. His strawberries were a special delight for him. Fishing was also a favorite hobby. Roger was a devoted father, grandfather and loved his family unconditionally. He was beloved by his nieces and nephews and they all knew they had a friend in Uncle Roger. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Stacey. Roger is survived by his children Jeffrey Alan (Julie) and Maschelle (Matt) Peyton and several grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Grace Miller, Texie Starcher, Shirley Casdorph, Sue Rakes and Linda Padgett and one brother Rudy Parsons. Friends and family may call Friday July13, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Private at a later date.
