Robert L. "Bob" Smith, 86, of South Charleston passed away January 9, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House West. Born April 18, 1925 at Landisburg, Fayette County, WV. He was the son of the late Dewey W. and Ida Bostic Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Ruth A. Smith, brothers, Eugene, John Morris and Gordon Smith and one sister Helen McKinney. Surviving him is his daughter, Deborah Westmoreland, one Grandson William J. Westmoreland, and several nephews and their wives. Bob was retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston with 32 years of service, and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Charleston. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran who fought in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He also served with the 625 Ammo Company and the 108th Infantry Division during World War II. Bob was a 50 year member of Charleston Masonic Lodge #153, Order of the Eastern Star #45, and Scottish Rite Bodies. A 50 year member of Beni Kedem Shrine Center, and the Royal Order of Jesters Court #111 of Charleston. A Life Member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev William K. Berry officiating. Entombment with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by Charleston Lodge #153 will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
