Richard A. Wells Richard Arden Wells, 81, of Allison Park, Pa, (formerly of Monta Vista Drive in Cross Lanes, WV) passed away on October 23, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following a short illness. Richard is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Virginia Wells Gilmartin of Kettering, Ohio; daughter, Karen Souza of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter Kimberly LeBlanc of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Katherine Wells-Work of San Diego, CA; son, Scott Wells of Hawaii; and seven grandchildren, Krystoffer Work, Parris Wells, Parker Wells, Korey Jividen, Kelsie Jividen, Madeleine Souza and Victoria Souza. Richard graduate from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1952 and almost immediately enlisted in the United State Marine Corp. He was engaged in active combat during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart for battle injuries. He also served as a Drill Sergeant and a Provost Marshall at Camp Lejeune, in N.C. Following his military service, Richard was a sales representative for the Mueller's Macaroni and Spaghetti Company and later a relief school bus driver for Kanawha County. Following the deaths of his mother, Helen Rader Wells and great-aunt, Ena Freeland Baker, Richard moved to Pittsburgh, PA to be closed to his children. Richard was always involved in the Cross Lanes Community and volunteered his time on various boards, clubs and the PTA. Richard's passion was youth baseball and he spent the better part of 30 years coaching children in the Cross Lanes Little League Baseball Program. His favorite saying as a coach was "Katie bar the Door". Richard was known for his love of life, WVU Mountaineer football, the Cincinnati Reds baseball, his enduring sense of humor and the ability to make most everyone laugh. He was often described as "a real character". A gathering to celebrate his life will be from 2 to 4 PM, Saturday November 22 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Richard's name to the Wounded Warrier Project, P.O.
