Ralph R. Cherry, 80, of Sissonville, passed away, May, 28, 2012 in St. Francis Hospital, after a short illness. Ralph was born June 21, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa the son of John A. "Jack" and Ruth P. Kerr Cherry who preceded in him in death. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Rex Allen Cherry. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force leaving as a Staff Sergeant, and retired as Tech Sergeant with the 130th Airlift Wing. He also was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service. Ralph was a loyal and charter member of the Guthrie Missionary Baptist Church. Through his contacts over the years, he was well known by many. We know him as, husband, Jerry, Dad, Papaw, and Papaw Ralph. A part of our being, has moved on to a better place. He will be sorely missed by all of us. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma Jean; sons, Jerry Michael Cherry and wife, Debby of Sissonville, Anthony Mark Cherry and his companion, Robin Fairchild of Clendenin, Eric Matthew Cherry and companion Tracy Jones of Sissonville; sisters, Jean Earll of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Kay Thoma of Orange County, California, and brother, John A Cherry, Jr. of Conesville, Iowa; grandchildren, Emily, Justin, Brooke, and McKenna; great grandchild, Kaori Grace; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 31, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with pastors, Melvin Sizemore and William Serles officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
