Obituary

Philip Erwin Peters Philip Erwin Peters, 74, of Charleston passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2012. Philip was born on July 23, 1938 son of the late Harmon Dale and Pearl Mae Smith Peters. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Greta, brothers, Ronald Lee and Clyde Allan as well as other family and friends. Philip graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1956 and from West Virginia State College in 1965. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation and McJunkin Corporation until his retirement. He lived on Sugar Creek his whole life and was a member of the Nitro Moose Lodge #565 and the Charleston Elks Lodge # 202. He was an avid sportsman enjoying bowling, softball, golf and shooting pool. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Beverly Ann and husband Eric Wurts of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Lori Beth and husband Jason Elliott of Hurricane; grandchildren, Evan, Jayna and Luke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Sandy Peters of Davie, FL and Peggy Peters of Sissonville, WV; uncle Vernon Smith of Cross Lanes; companion Janet Hypes of Charleston and a host of family and friends also left to mourn his passing. We will celebrate and honor his life with a visitation service on Wednesday October 10, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home and a funeral service on Thursday October 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Pastor Ron McClung will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Charleston Elks Lodge # 202, 1706 Greenbrier Street Charleston, WV 25311 in Philip's memory.
