IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy Ann
Walker
August 29, 1939 – July 3, 2024
Peggy Ann Walker, born on August 29, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia, from the union of Theodore Roosevelt Walker and Esther Virginia Walker, departed this earth on July 3, 2024. Peggy was predeceased by her parents; brother ClarenceEdward; and brother Robert Lawrence Walker (Anna L. Walker).
Affectionally known as "Miss Peggy" and "Mama," Peggy was educated in Kanawha County elementary schools and completed her high school years when integration began, on the cusp of the civil rights movement. She received her B.A. in Education from West Virginia State College (University) in 1960. Peggy then began employment with the federal government, serving with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 40 years.
Peggy is survived and mourned by her sister, Jacqueline Walker Haith of Castleton-on-Hudson, New York; nephews Michael Darin Haith, Esq. of Mission Viejo, California and Robert Lawrence Walker, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; sister-in-law, Jesse M. Walker, of Marietta, Georgia; nieces TrenesaWalker McCalpine of Greensboro, Alabama, Robyn Walker, of Cleveland, Ohio and Tracy Walker Hicks of Powder Springs, Georgia; great niece Christen Walker of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and a host of cousins and friends.
Our hearts are broken and heavy, but warmed by a reciprocal love, as Peggy puts her arms around us and reminds us that "we'll be together again." Peggy was a strong and spirited personality, warm and comforting. She enjoyed family, people, music, dance, card games and playing Bingo with friends. Peggy especially enjoyed long telephone chats and her greatest joy was sitting with a cup of coffee and solving crossword puzzles from local newspapers and the New York Times. Peggy will be dearly missed by family and those who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on July 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Park, 4301 MacCorkle Ave SW, Charleston, West Virginia 25309.
