ALLEN PAUL HOWARD
Allen Paul Howard, 93, passed into the next life with complete confidence in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on December 16, 2019 at his residence. Paul was born October 22, 1926, in New Kensington, PA to the late Allen M. Howard and Mary Herbulock Howard. After graduation from New Brighton High School, PA in 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army, served in France, Belgium, and Germany, and at age 19 was discharged as a master sergeant. Paul was drawn to the relatively new field of radio and completed KDKA's announcing school in Pittsburgh, PA. His first job was in Flat River, MO, and from there, his work in radio, which he loved, took him to Bellaire, OH, Akron, OH, Charleston, WV, Spartanburg, SC, and in 1981, back to Charleston. Beginning his career as a disc jockey, he served in many capacities in the field, including program director, sales person, sales manager, general manager, and minority owner. In 1950 He married the love of his life, Kathryn "Cassie" Duvall. (Until the time of his death, Paul continued as a faithful employee of West Virginia Radio Corporation. For him, retirement couldn't compete with the pleasures of being in radio.) In his long life, Paul made many friends who remember him for his humility, selflessness, sense of humor, diligence, and integrity. He was beloved. Paul was a member of The Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, a founding member of radio's International Idea Bank, West Virginia Broadcasters Association, and a number of other organizations. In 2006 he was inducted as part of the inaugural class into the West Virginia Radio Hall of Fame. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, "Cassie", who passed away June 30, 2005; a brother, William Howard, and three sisters, Margaret Howard Fink, Mary Howard and Dorothy Howard. Cassie and Paul had no children, but he is survived by two brothers, Patrick (Dolly) Howard of Walkersville, MD and Edward (Ellen) Howard of Bethesda, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on January 4, 2020 at The Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Charleston, with visitation one hour prior to services, the Very Rev. Father Donald X. Higgs, officiating. Burial will be private at Belmont County Memorial Park in St. Clairsville, OH.
