Obituary

Pansy Ruth Layne Campbell, 85, of Charleston, loving wife, mother and grandmother, left this world on June 7, 2012 at the Hubbard Hospice House, to begin her new quest. She fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Pansy was born August 31, 1926 to the late William D. "Bill" and Gladys Thaxton Layne. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1943, and was a graduate of the Charleston Business College. She retired from the Kroger Company with 34 years of service. Prior to Kroger's she worked for the late Congressman, John M. Slack at Sissonville Bus Lines, the Charleston Laundry and of course, Bill Layne's Grocery. In addition to her parents, Pansy was preceded in death by sisters, Rose Marie and Violet Mae Layne; brothers, Paul Lee, William D., Jr. and Ernest A. Layne; and special cousin, James H. Thaxton. Survivors include her loving husband of 64 ½ years, Jimmie Ben Campbell; son, Gregory A. Campbell and wife Debbe; grandson, James B. Campbell and fiancée, Sara Musgrave; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Melissa Foster, Caregiver; staff at St. Francis Hospital, Amedisys; Jill Vigliotti and staff at the Hubbard Hospice House. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Pansy's name to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard, W., Charleston, WV 25312-2536. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston with the Rev. Al Mendez officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
