Otis "Junior" Burdette, 86, of Kenna, formerly of Sissonville went home to the Lord and his wife on January 9, 2014. Otis proudly served in the United Sates Army Paratrooper's 11th Airborne Division and was a retired Captain from the Charleston Fire Department. After becoming a born again Christian at age 30, Otis spent the rest of his life in Gospel music, singing in quartets, directing church choirs, most notably at Mt. Pisgah for 30 years, and teaching. Otis was also a self-taught, accomplished song writer having had more than 200 Gospel songs published by most of the publishers of Southern Gospel music. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Lena J. Baldwin Burdette on April 14, 2013. Also preceding him were his parents, Emzie and Corda Burdette; brother, Aundle Burdette; and infant sister, Patsy Burdette. Survivors include his loving daughter, Cheryl Ann (Ron) Finney of Sissonville; grandchildren, Shane Thaxton and Dustin (Ashley) Finney both of Sissonville; great-grandchildren, Gage and Noah Thaxton and Lily Finney all of Sissonville; sister, Hilda George of Charleston; brother, Russell Burdette of Ft. Myers, FL; nephews, Rex (Carol) Burdette of Holly, MI, Ronnie "Toby" (Linda) Burdette of Ft. Myers, FL, Tony (Kelly) George of Kenna and Rick (Patsy) George of Hansford; and three great-nieces who adored him, Kiersten, Kiarrah and Audrey George all of Kenna. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Tony George officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 6-8 also at the funeral home where Charleston Fire Department will post honors.
