Our dear mother, Ocie "Loretta" Oretta Burgess, sadly passed away on March 29, 2024, at the age of 82. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community of Big Chimney. She enjoyed shopping and was always on the look-out for a good yard sale. She loved and enjoyed cuddling with her miniature dachshund, Pippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonia and Ora Burford, her children's father, Dallas Carpenter, her second husband and the love of her life, James Burgess, her sisters, Kathy McGraw and Diana Kelley, brother, Larchie Burford, son, Cameron Carpenter, grandchildren, Heather Diveley and Joseph McMillion, great granddaughter Railyn Carpenter, and great grandson, Isaiah McMillion.

She is survived by daughters Karen Butler (Steve), Deborah Coleman (Glen), and Kimberly McMillion, son Dallas Carpenter II (Yvonne), grandchildren, Amanda Barker, Tony Pullen, Whitney Butler, Jennifer Hughes, Tara Diveley, Travis McMillion, Dallas Carpenter III, Andrew Carpenter, Tiffany Carpenter, and Brittany Carpenter. She had 24 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Her sisters were Avilee Hodge(Kenneth), Sharon Holmes (Mike), Brenda Smith (Rick), Connie Hicks (Rick), brothers Buddy Burford (Joyce), James Burford (Joyce), Ricky Burford, Darrell Burford, and Roger Burford (Linda) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Cunningham Parker Johnson Funeral Home. Per Ocie's wishes she will be cremated following the funeral service.
