IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman Wilson
Older Jr.
November 15, 1937 – August 14, 2024
Norman W. (Bill) Older, Jr., 86, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Born and raised on Tyler Mountain in Kanawha County, WV, Bill was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and attended Bob Jones University. He dedicated his entire career to the banking industry, retiring from United National Bank in Charleston. Following his retirement, he worked for the West Virginia Legislature for several legislative sessions, hosting for visitors during the session (giving impromptu history lectures) and keeping track of legislation.
A devoted member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Bill served in numerous roles, most notably as a cherished member of the choir. His love for travel led him on many adventures, both near and far, shared with his beloved late wife, Mary, who was his constant companion in life and journeys. Bill was an avid reader and history buff. Bill loved dogs and loved petting dogs when visiting friends. Bill was known for his love of good food, his storytelling from his childhood and his unwavering kindness to everyone he met.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Jean Older; his parents-in-law, Eugene and Rosa Patton; his sister, Sue Bankman; his wife, Mary Older; his daughter, Pam Julian; and his nephews, Mark Patton and Billy Thomas; and his brothers-in-law, Delbert Patton and David Patton.
He is survived by his granddaughters, Amber Julian and Heather Julian; his sisters-in-law, Inez Patton and Linda Brown; his brother-in-law, Tom Bankman; his nephews, Brandon Brown (April), Jeff Patton (Debbie), Jeff Bankman, and Greg Thomas; nieces Debbie Scarbro and Devonna Scarbro (Jerry); many great-nieces and nephews, and special friends such as Jeff Green, and Ky and Tammy Owen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, at Oakwood Baptist Church, 855 Oakwood Rd., Charleston, WV 25314, with Pastor David Moutz officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. A graveside burial of cremains at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Oakwood Baptist Church.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at CAMC Hospice Center for the excellent care and support provided to Bill. Arrangements are under the care of Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston. Online condolences can be shared with the family at cpjfuneralhome.com.
