Nora Ashby Varney Nora Ashby Varney 77, of Dunbar went home to be with the Lord, June 30, 2011 after a long illness. She was a retired cook from The Diamond Department Store, and attended Roxalanna Gospel Tabernacle Church, and was Head Volunteer for many fundraisers. Sang with the Ashby Trio, for many years on the Harvest Time Gospel Program, on station WXIT. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Chester Varney; and her parents, Virgil and Mary Ashby. Surviving are her children, Joyce Fisher of Dunbar, Willard Buzzard and wife Deanna of Jackson County, Charles "Peanuts" Buzzard and wife Debbie of Newton, Freda Keffer and husband Ed of Costa, Patty Adkins and husband Robbie of Beaufort, SC, Jeff Buzzard and wife Brenda of Hurricane, Melissa "Missy" Taylor and husband Jeff of Dunbar, and Teresa Eads and husband Danny of Charleston; brother, the Rev. Albert Ashby and wife Brenda of Charleston, sister; Donna Davis of Charleston; and sister-in-law, Jeannie Ashby of Nitro. 39 Grandchildren and 21 Great Granddchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Price officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday July 5, 2011 at the Funeral Home.
