Obituary

Nancy Caldwell Blankenship, 87, passed away on July 18, 2025, in Charleston, West Virginia. Born on January 29, 1939, in Sissonville, West Virginia, Nancy lived a life marked by service, compassion, and an unwavering zest for life.

Throughout her career, Nancy held numerous positions across multiple state governments as well as within the federal government. Her professional journey reflected her dedication to public service and her ability to adapt and thrive in diverse roles. Over the years, she wore many hats—teacher, mentor, advocate—and embraced each with determination and heart.

Nancy was deeply committed to helping others. She actively volunteered with several charities and could often be found lending her time and energy to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and local food pantries. Her generosity extended beyond material support; she gave freely of her time, spirit, and wisdom.

A woman of deep faith and conviction, Nancy was an outspoken Christian who championed nonjudgment and tolerance. She believed in embracing people from all walks of life and stood firmly for acceptance across religious beliefs and lifestyles.

Nancy's vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was known for her sharp wit, intelligence, resourcefulness, and boundless love. Adventurous and young at heart, she had a passion for travel and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation with someone new. Whether playing cards with friends or exploring new places, Nancy approached life with enthusiasm and curiosity.

She is survived by her brother Curtis Caldwell; her three children Susan Blankenship, Nancy (Amy) Rhoades, and Greg Blankenship; her grandchildren Courtney Brewer, Tyler Dombrowski, Sarah Rhoades, and Cleveland (Tray) Rhoades; as well as her great-grandchildren Page Brewer, Kurt Brewer, Cleveland (C4) Rhoades, Rinoa Rhoades, and Jocob Dombrowski.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Roy Caldwell; her siblings Lewis Caldwell, Charlie Caldwell, and Pat Lucas.

In reflecting on motherhood—a role she cherished deeply—Nancy once said: "I often failed, but I never stopped trying to be the best parent I could." That humility and honesty defined much of who she was: loving yet candid, strong yet tender-hearted.

Nancy will be missed by many whose lives were touched by her warmth and wisdom. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. A Funeral Service will be held on July 28, 2025 at 12:00pm at Cunningham Parker and Johnson Funeral Home . Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
