Marie Hummel Crowell Burdette, 86, of Sissonville, passed away, February 28, 2012 at Cedar Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Marie was born in Pennsylvania, August 29, 1925 and lived in Niagara Falls, New York where she met her second husband, Natchee R. Burdette, and came to Charleston to live in 1957. She was employed by the Shredded Wheat Plant in New York, and worked at the Rose City Diner, and dress shops on Capitol Street, which included, Diana's Shop, Lords, and Embees. She was a Christian and the last church she attended was Tuppers Valley. She loved to dress up fancy in her younger days, and always wore high heels to work. She loved to clean house. Marie always had a smile that seemed to say it all. She was also cared for by her daughter, Susie Haynes, with daily visits. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Hummel and Erma Dixon Hummel Evans; brother, Gordon Hummel; and sister, Pauline Jones all of Pennsylvania; the father of her four older children and first husband, Wayne H. Crowell; second husband, and father of Susie and Bobby, Natchee R. Burdette. Surviving are her children; Deanna Snyder and husband, Bob of Shannon, Illinois, Wayne H. Crowell and wife, Brenda of Freeport, Illinois, Sharon Andrzejewski and husband, Hank of N. Tonawanda, New York, Candace Rice and husband, Donald of Hawk Run, Pennsylvania, Susie Haynes and husband Mike of Sissonville, Bobby Burdette of Sissonville; brother, Leon "Butch" Hummel and wife, Frances of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hummel of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. Visitation with the family will be 5-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Thanks to all at Cedar Ridge. They have been a part of our family for the past four years.
