Linda L. Holmes, 66, of Sissonville, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Cedar Ridge Center. She was a member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church, Wolfe Pen. Linda received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia State College and worked in the Master's degree program through the College of Graduate Studies. She always enjoyed being a part of a variety of training programs. She was Director of Training/Instructor for the Opportunities Industrialization, Inc. (O.I.C.) and also a substitute teacher for the Kanawha County school system. Linda was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Leon and Stella Thaxton Skeens Holmes; a brother and his wife, Jack and Katheryn Skeens; nephew, Tony Skeens; and brother-in-law, Kenny Ratliff. Surviving are precious brothers, Robert Skeens and wife, Marlene of Charleston, "Wolfe Pen Mayor" Jimmy Holmes and wife, Dorothy of Charleston; angelic sister, Peggy Ratliff of Campbells Creek; special nieces, Misti Cochran and husband, Jim of North Charleston, Ranae Meadows and husband, Okey of Coopers Creek, Kelly Tincher of Hurricane; hard-working nephews, Richard Skeens of Clarksburg, Mark Skeens of Charleston, Kevin Skeens and wife, Kelly of Charleston and Keith Ratliff and wife, Jamie of Campbells Creek; and the appreciated frequent visits of great-niece, Makenzie Cochran and great-nephew, Jayleb Cochran. Also surviving are special friends, Nancy Walker Gibson, Patricia Ross, Carol Hodge, Minaird Ford and family, and all her Red Hat Society friends. She was also fully blessed by other loving family members, compassionate cousins, and caring friends and neighbors. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Campbell officiating. Friends will be received from 5-7 PM Tuesday also at the funeral home. Committal service and burial will be Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the mausoleum chapel at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to Elizabeth Baptist Church, 2550 Wolfe Pen Dr., Charleston, WV 25312. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave, when life is done.
