Lena Carpenter McKemy
Lena Carpenter McKemy, 99, of Charleston, passed away September 19, 2017.
Lena was raised in Putnam County, served our country as one of the "Rosie The Riveter" ladies, during WWII in Akron, Ohio. She put herself through nursing school while doing the Riveting work, was an LPN at Staats Hospital, and also did private nursing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos P. and Delila Buzzard Carpenter; husband, William Clinton McKemy; one brother and eight sisters.
Surviving are son, Michael McKemy and wife Pat of Conway, SC; daughters, Carmelita McKemy and LoRita McKemy both of Winfield; grandchildren, Joshua West, Kelly Watkins and Casie McKemy; great-grandchildren, Laikyn West, Allison McKemy, Jayson Rowe, Madison Music, and Kyle McKemy; great-great-grandson, Orion West.
Graveside service and burial will be 3 PM, Friday, September 22, at Creston Cemetery, Evans, WV, with Pastor Ben Riggleman officiating.
Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 2 PM Friday, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston.
The family wants to express sincere thanks to Genesis, Dunbar and Hospice Care.
