Lawrence V. "Steve" Stevens, 79 of Charleston passed away Saturday December 6, 2014 at CAMC Memorial after a short illness. Lawrence was born in Calhoun County, May 7, 1935 to the late Bert and Myrtle Stevens. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his brother and sister in law, Phillip and Ann Stevens of Calhoun County; companion of 29 years, Betty Hammonds; her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Mark Morris of Charleston; her son, Franklin Hammonds of FL; 2 grandchildren, Samantha and Robert Morris of Charleston and many nephews and nieces. Lawrence served in the Marine Corp., Army and Navy from 1955 to 1973, serving 3 tours of duty during the Korean and Vietnam War, and was a retired heavy equipment operator.
