Lafayette "Lafey" Smith Lafayette "Lafey" Smith, 75, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord February 26, 2011. He was a US Army Veteran, and retired from Sears & Roebuck. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was known for his keen sense of humor. Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Maryann Smith; children, Donna Desai and husband, Vinay of Lebanon, New Jersey, Carrie Elizabeth Smith of New York, James Anthony Smith of Charleston, and Toni Ann Smith of Huntington; three granddaughters and seven grandsons; his loyal dog and best friend, Eddie; brother, Russell Smith of Virginia; sister Betty Turner of Ripley. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 61 Clendenin Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
