Kay McClure Steele Kinder, 87, of Charleston, West Virginia, transferred to the Church Triumphant on March 7, 2024 and joined her beloved husband.

She was born in McMillan Hospital, Charleston, on September 25, 1936. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Kay was a teacher and principal in Kanawha County Schools for 33 years after graduating from Keyser High School and Asbury College. She also held a masters degree from Marshall University.

Kay was a woman of strong faith who put care and service of others ahead of herself in both her career and personal life. She dedicated herself to helping special needs children, and was a lifelong advocate for their care and education. She enjoyed camping with her husband, cheering for West Virginia Mountaineer athletic teams, making cakes and candies, and doting on her grand dogs Katie Jo, Trina Kay and Maddie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Earl Kinder, her parents, Lawrence A. Steele and Josephine Scott Steele, and infant sisters, Eloise Josephine and Lanenia Erlene Steele.

Kay is survived by her daughter Earline Rae Kinder of Boardman, Ohio, son, Kevin Paul Kinder and wife Tricia Clark of Charleston, precious granddaughter Jillian Grace Kinder of Washington, D.C, and brother and sister-in-law Garland W. and Pansy Lee Cooper Steele of St. Albans, as well as by many nephews, great nephews and great nieces.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers who assisted Kay during the final years of her life.

Services will be held at Cunningham Parker Johnson Funeral Home, 1325 Washington St. West, in Charleston at noon on Saturday, March 9. Dr. Randall Flanagan will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon.

Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, 6839 Sissonville Dr., in Sissonville.
