Joy Mae Mairs, 83, of Ripley passed away September 29, 2023 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness with her daughter, Vicky, by her side.

She retired from CAMC General Division in 2002 where she worked in Physical Therapy.

Joy was born April 5, 1940 to the late Emmett E. Boggess and Mary Boggess of Sissonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyal "Pip" Mairs; brothers, Emmett "Junior" and wife, Dorthy Boggess, of Kentucky, Bobby and wife, Ellen "Sissy" Boggess of Midway; sister, Dolores Parrish of Charleston; and brothers-in-law, Gary Hemmings and Clinton Goodwin.

She is survived by sisters, Teresa Goodwin of Sissonville, Sherry and her husband, Henry Daniel, of Kentucky, Wanda Hemmings of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Vicky Carnes and her husband, Milton Carnes Jr. of Ripley, and Pamela Boggess of North Carolina; step-son, Doyal Whitt and his wife, Cris, of Arthurdale; grandsons, Cameron Carpenter, Colton Carnes and his companion, Hanna Moffatt, and Michael Whitt.

Joy loved and cherished her Grandsons more than anything on this earth. They were the joy of her life. She will be missed by her loyal dogs, Rico and Tiny, who were always by her side.

Service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 9, 2023 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, 1325 W. Washington Street with Pastor George Freshour officiating. Burial will follow in Sissonville Memorial Gardens, Sissonville.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
