John D. Potter, 54, of Charleston, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 20, 2012. John made friends wherever he went, and was always eager to help anyone. He loved music, playing the drums, and WVU football. He was a member of Local 887 Plasters and Cement Masons for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and May Potter; Uncle and Aunt, George and Sadie Bumgardner, whom he spent a lot of time with in childhood; and his aunt, Marie Cooley. Surviving are; his wife, Brenda Hamon-Potter of Charleston; son, Tate Hamon of Charleston; step-daughter, Jamie Hamon of Charleston; sister, Maureen Hyson of Laurel, Maryland; nephews, David and Ron Hyson; uncle, Gerry Cooley of Reading, England; several loving nieces and nephews in England; special cousin, Patrick Bumgardner; mother-in-law, Janet L. Hamon of Charleston; and his extended Hamon family that loved him like a brother. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral, Charleston with Pastor Ben Vance officiating. Burial will be in Sissonville Memorial Gardens, Sissonville.
