John Collins 71 passed away after a long illness on July 9, 2014. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. John was born Jerry W. Collins on October 18, 1942 to Frank and Dolly Collins in Whitesville, WV. He is survived by his brother Bill Collins of Saco Maine; son, Steve Collins and daughter Terri Collins both of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sherry Johnson Collins; his parents; sister, Pauline Cantley; brothers Donald Ray, Jimmy and Frank Jr. John joined the Marines in 1960 and served 6 years. He married Sherry Johnson Collins on June 5, 1966. They were married 34 years until her passing in 2000. He co-owned a butcher shop on the West Side of Charleston at one time. He then worked various jobs until he retired from Capitol City Septic as on site manager until he retired. He loved flirting, fishing, auctions, John Wayne movies and cigars. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Monday July 14 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Vannoy officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites provided by the The Marine Corp League will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Visitation with the family will be two hours prior to services also on Monday.
