Jimmy Otis Whittington, 65, of Charleston, passed away at home with his family by his side after a long illness September 18, 2011. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a former miner working in the strip mines and also a former employee of Thompson Cable Vision. Jimmy was also a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis S. and Anita Tate Whittington; half sisters, Carrie Lanham, Mabel Thaxton, Olive Whittington, Adeline Whittington; and half brothers, Don Whittington and William Whittington. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda G. Whittington; daughters, Shawn Whittington Faber and Amy Whittington Thaxton; grandchildren, who he adored, Kristin B. Thaxton and Colton J.W. Faber; sister, Patricia Riodan; half sisters, Faye Thaxton, Estella Jones; and half brother, Clifford Whittington. The family wishes to extend many, many thanks to the caregivers who took excellent care of Jimmy: Marlyn Oxley, Jason Thaxton and Jessica Harper. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Means officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, September 20 from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to funeral service also at the church.
