Jake Vassel, Jr. 92 of Charleston passed away April 24, 2016 at his home. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, member of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 8129. Jake was a Chemical Operator for Allied Chemicals and a retired U.S. Mining Inspector. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jake Vassel, Sr. and Minnie Green Vassel. Survivors include his son, Larry Vassel and wife Laurie of Charleston; brothers, William Vassel and wife Mona of Chesapeake, and Charles Vassel and wife Nancy of Midwest City, OK; sister, Sarah Vassel West of Charleston; grandchildren, Jason and Lauren Vassel. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Chaplain Pete Thompson officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites provided by American Legion Post 187, Winfield, will follow in Marmet Cemetery, Marmet. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
