Jack Smith, 68 of Sissonville passed away April 24, 2012 at home after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born February 15, 1944, he was a son of the late Dewey and Virdeen Jackson Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mark Smith; and by his dear friend and sister-in-law, Sue Moss Wilkinson and by his father and mother-in-law; Rev. Elza Moss and Garnett Berry Moss. Jack attended Sissonville High School and joined the U.S. Army, December 12, 1962 and spent most of his military career in Germany with Co. C 3rd Bn. 6th Infantry during the Berlin Crisis. He attained the rank of SP4 - E-4 and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1964. Jack worked as a Truck Driver, mainly hauling and setting up heavy equipment for 44 years. He retired from All Crane and Equipment Rental Corp. in Nitro, WV on September 29, 2006. During his driving career he was presented the West Virginia Driver of the Month Award for December, 1983. It was presented for outstanding service as a Professional Truck Driver by the West Virginia Truck Association, Inc. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 25 years, Brenda B. Moss of Sissonville; one son, Jack Edward Smith of St. Albans; three daughters, Sherry Ann Campbell and husband Keith, Lisa Jo Stephens and Betty Jo Smith and husband Mike Brown, all of St. Albans. There are nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Two brothers, Elbert Smith and wife Phyllis and Tommy Smith both of Sissonville. One brother-in-law, Elza "Rex" Moss and wife Suzanne of South Charleston. Three sisters; Edna Shamblin and husband Denzil of Kenna; Jean Parsons and husband Phillip of Liberty and Teresa Thaxton of Ripley. Also surviving is his dear aunt whom he thought of as a mother, Berneze Shamblin, and his dear friend, Sharon Shamblin Tignor both of Sissonville. An appreciative and heart-felt "Thank You" to his two nieces, Rhonda and Redhonda Wilkinson for their loving, kind and generous care during his last sixteen days. Also much love and affection to his nephew, Keith Dennis and Chris Huffman, Jack's wonderful friend, who was always there for his when he needed help during the past 15 years. Last but not least, Jack loved and adored his four-legged companion, Lucas. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening April 27, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM. At Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Saturday April 28th at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. William K. Berry will be offering prayer and the reading of the obituary. The Rev. Mike Good, pastor of Golgotha Church will be the officiating minister. Songs will be offered by Calvary's Why, the loving duet from Golgotha Church and per Jack's request, his niece, Rhonda Sue Wilkinson will sing.
