IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jackie Eugene
Boggess Sr.
December 3, 1935 – February 8, 2025
Jackie Eugene Boggess, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, after a short illness. He was born in Charleston, WV, on December 3, 1935. He worked at the Charleston Newspaper for over 40 years, culminating in his final position as supervisor of the press room. Because of his mechanical acumen he was known throughout the country for assembling/disassembling the modern printing presses of his generation. He would travel to other major cities in the country training pressmen on the use of this new press, as well as the British press sending their people to the U.S. to train under his guidance. His specialty was incorporating color into the printed paper. One of our greatest joys growing up was receiving the printing plate of the front page on the day of our birthday.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, but he was most proud of his daughter and son-in-law's service to this country. Proudly wearing his Army ball caps whenever he left home. Dad's greatest joy was watching Western movies and his beloved "Gunsmoke". His regular attire included the snap front western shirt and a pair of jeans.
He is predeceased by his Father, Arthur T. Boggess and Mother, Elma Peterson. He is predeceased by his siblings, Vivian, Ted, Christie and survived by his brother, Richard. He is survived by a very large extended Family.
His greatest achievement was his children: his son, the late Jackie E. Boggess, Jr.; his surviving daughters, Colonel (Retired) Corrina M. Boggess and Roserita M. McDaniel; and his son-in-law, the late Sergeant Major (Retired) Russell W. McDaniel.
He is predeceased by his long-time companion, Nancy J. Akers and her two children Tina Estep-Bowles and Russell Akers and survived by her two other children Denise Stratton and Scooter Akers, and all the grandchildren. He loved and supported the children as his own.
His memorial service is scheduled for 11am, May 5, 2025, at Cunningham, Parker & Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston, WV, followed by an inurnment service at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on behalf of Jackie to the Potomac Highlands Wounded Warrior Outreach, P.O. Box 1225, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or the Black Dagger Military Hunt Club, https://www.blackdaggermhc.org/faqs/

Hebrews 4:9-10 So there remains a [full and complete] Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10For the one who has once entered His rest has also rested from [the weariness and pain of] his [human] labors, just as God rested from [those labors uniquely] His own. Psalm 23:2 He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters.
