Hubert C. "Smitty" Smith Hubert C."Smitty" Smith, 82, of Charleston, formerly of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2012. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Allen Smith; three brothers; four sisters; and step-son, Vernon Bailey, Sr. Hubert retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways, and worked at Terramite Corporation. He was most proud of his service to our country during the Korean War, and his time as an auxiliary policeman and firefighter with the city of Nitro. He was a member of Nitro Church of God, and most recently attended Baber Agee Methodist Church. Surviving are; his wife, Phyllis Bailey O'Neill Smith; daughter, Judy and her husband, Johnny Caruthers; son, Jeff and his wife, Lisa, all of Nitro; stepson, Paul Bailey, Sr. and his wife, Diana, and daughter-in-law, Bobbie Bailey, all of Charleston; grandchildren, Michael Caruthers and his wife, Courtney, Jessica Caruthers, Matthew Caruthers, and Jeffrey Smith; great-grandchildren Taylor Hearn, Makayla and Keyleigh Caruthers, Hannah and Hayden Kyte; four step-grandchildren, and 9 step great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Baber Agee Methodist Church, with Pastor Robert Vanfossen and the Rev. Dale Stonestreet officiating. Entombment will be in Haven of Rest, Poca. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday September 28, 2012, at Baber Agee Methodist Church, and one hour prior to service Saturday also at the church.
