Howard Francis Boyd, 82, of Kanawha City in Charleston, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on January 7, 2012. He was born December 21, 1929 in Charleston, the only son of Harry H. and Pauline Boyd. He married Mary Maxine Naylor on September 22, 1956 at Weekly Memorial United Methodist Church in Charleston. Howard grew up on the West Side of Charleston and was a graduate of Charleston High School in 1947. In 1948 Howard joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. After his active duty he spent six years in the reserves. He was an employee of Columbia Gas Transmission for his entire career and retired from there in 1985 after 33 years of service. Active in the church, he attended through the transition from Weekly Memorial United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 4 years, to Humphrey's United Methodist and then to the West Side United Methodist Church where he was Head Usher for many years until 2008. In 2008 he joined Morris Memorial United Methodist Church which was closer to home and easier to get to. Along with his sons he was an active member of the I.O.O. F., Kanawha Lodge #25, for 43 years, which he joined in 1968 and was a Past Noble Grand. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Encampment, Ellinipsico #13 where he was a Past Chief Patriarch. He enjoyed being in the country and owned a camp in Pocahontas County near the Observatory in Greenbank, WV, which he bought in 1971. He and his family always enjoyed their trips there to go fishing and hunting and just to enjoy life. A home away from home, many weeks and weekends were spent in the splendor of the hills of West Virginia. He always said it was the most beautiful country God could have ever made. Howard is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Maxine Boyd of Charleston; two sons, Stephen Boyd and his wife Karla of Charleston; David Boyd and his wife Carol of Cross Lanes; and three Grand Children, Brittany, Ethan and Shelby Boyd. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry H. and Pauline Boyd. The family would like to thank Hospice, and Gentiva Home Health for their kindness, help and council. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church, 4615 MacCorkle Ave. SE. with Rev. Richard DeQuasie officiating. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 PM Tuesday January 10, 2012 also at the church.
