Obituary

Homer E. Salser, 81, of Charleston, formerly of Rockford, IL, entered the gates of Heaven peacefully from his rocking chair July 4, 2013. Mr. Salser was an avid hunter and bowler. He also enjoyed motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons. He retired from Amerock in Rockford and after moving back to West Virginia worked in lawn care. Mr. Salser was a member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 519, Charleston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale Salser and Virginia Staats Delong; and sister, Juanita Colvard. A devoted family man, he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Salser; sons, Eugene Salser and wife Cathy and Robert Lee Dolin, Jr. and wife, Teresa, all of Rockford, IL; daughters, Jo-Alice Anderson of Rockford, IL and Foster Daughter, Kristina Taylor of Charleston; brother, Raymond Salser; sister, Betty Jo Cottrill; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special nephew Paul "Butch" Townsend and a host of loving family and friends. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2013 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with his granddaughter, Christine Salser and Pastor James Chessor officiating. Burial will follow at Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home.
