Hobert G. "Hobie" Underwood Hobert G. "Hobie" Underwood, 90, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, February 23, 2013, after a short illness. Hobie was a WWII veteran, and retired from Sears with 35 years of service. He was a member of Two Mile Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Cavender Underwood; parents, Okey Underwood and Goldie Caldwell Underwood; son-in-law, Kenneth Harding; grandson James David "J.D." Underwood; sisters, Helen Miller, Murlie Haynes, Rebecca Taylor, and Delma Samms; brothers, Denver Underwood and Emory "Bossie" Underwood. Surviving are his son, David (Marie) Underwood; daughters, Joyce Harding, and Janice Underwood all of Charleston; grandchildren, Rob (Heather) Harding, Mendy (Chris) Burdette, Faith Harrison all of Charleston, and Justin (Michelle) Underwood of Hurricane; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Chase Harding, MaKenzie, Kelly, and Kadie Watson, Lauren and Levi Harmison, Lexi and Tyler Underwood; sisters, Teachie Campbell of Summersville; brother, Floyd (Drema) Underwood of Charleston; sister-in-laws, Nelma Petry, Lila (Jake) Harding, Janet Clendenin, and Sylvia Cavender. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 25, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with his nephew, Rev. Jeff Underwood and the Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico, with military graveside rites, by American Legion Post No. 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, February 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
