Obituary

George E. Atkinson, III George E. Atkinson, III, 66, of Charleston passed away suddenly February 27, 2010 at his home. George was a 1962 graduate of Sissonville High School, a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country in Vietnam. He was retired from UPS, a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 175 where he served as president of the Retiree's Club. He attended Starcher Baptist Church, and volunteered his time for many organizations. Surviving are; his wife of 43 years, Janet Mobley Atkinson; son, Dana Atkinson and wife, Paula of Charleston; daughter, Deanne Turley and husband David Eric of Charleston; brother, David Atkinson and wife, Brenda of Sissonville; sister, Sandra Abbot of Charleston; step-sister, Mary Hardman and husband Larry of St. Albans; half-brother, Eric Atkinson and wife, Kris of Kannapolis, North Carolina; granddaughters, Montana Turley and Alexxa Atkinson; aunt, Inez Phipps and husband, Dr. James L. of Huntington; uncle Stanley Love and wife, MaryAnn of Denver, Colorado. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday March 3, 2010 at Starcher Baptist Church, with Pastor Tom Moore officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
