Obituary

Freda Lee Skeens Freda Lee Skeens, 91, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on her birthday, May 5, 2015. She departed this earth after a long illness at her home with her daughters by her side. Freda was a devout Christian and homemaker. Before her illness you could always expect a delicious home-cooked meal when you visited with her. She was a member of Sugar Creek Community Mission Church. Prior to that was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. Her greatest joys in life were attending church and preparing meals for her husband and family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also a very important part of her life. She was kind to all she met and always had a positive attitude towards life. She suffered for her last few years on this earth before going to heaven. Her two daughters were her care givers and have been by her side these last two years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Everett Skeens; parents, Romie and Julia Cobb; step-mother, Gracie Cobb; an infant son; an infant daughter; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Mobley. Survivors include her loving children, Judy Russell of Charleston, James Skeens and wife, Mary of Charleston, Jack Skeens and wife, JoAnn of Scott Depot, and Joy Childers and husband, Buddy of Dunbar; grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Jason, LeAnn, Travis, Jessica, Richie, Jamison and Joshua; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Aretta Kiser of Poca, half-sisters, Mary Lou, Linda and Merlie; and half-brothers, Theodore, James and Everett. The family would like to extend deep gratitude and thanks to her previous caregiver, Lee Kidd. The family would also like to thank Dr. Michael Robie and the staff at Hospice, Scott, Beth and Heidi, for their help and support. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Friday, May 8, 2015 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Kiser officiating. Burial will follow at John Beane Cemetery, Sissonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time also at the funeral home.
