Obituary

Fred L. Turnes, 84, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2009. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War, Retired from Staats Hospital and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in North Charleston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holland and Sadie Turnes; sister, Thelma Akers, and half-brother, Vernon Turnes. Fred is survived by his Loving Wife of 49 years, Berthel Shafer Turnes; Son, Garry Turnes and his wife Cheryl of Dunbar; Daughter, Sandra Slater and her husband Chester of Charleston; Brother, Holland Turnes and his wife Virginia of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Half-Brother, Earl Turnes of Cool Ridge; Sister-in-law, Loretta Turnes of Beckley; Half-Sisters, Velma Dunlap, Wilda Hanna, Erma Foster, and Ilva McComas. Grandchildren, Emily Turnes, Steven Stover and their Mother, Charlotte Turnes, Elana Miller and her husband Zachary, Lindsay Harrison and her husband Scott. Great Grandchildren; Blake and Mackenzie Miller, Bryson and Brennon Harrison, and several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan McClung officiating. Burial will follow with Military Graveside Rites provided by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin, in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
