Obituary

Flora Vassiliou passed away peacefully on October 21, 2013, after a brief illness while visiting in San Diego, California. She was born on January 23, 1917, on the island of Cyprus and immigrated to the United States with her beloved husband, Jack in 1947. She was an active member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society and will be remembered for her warm disposition and excellent sewing, seamstress, gardening, cooking and baking skills. Flora was visiting in San Diego upon the deaths of her husband Jack and oldest son John in order to be close with her loving son, Mitchell. Flora is survived by her son, Mitchell Vassiliou, and her five grandchildren, April Vassiliou, Jennifer Vassiliou, Caroline Vassiliou, Michael Vassiliou and Nicholas Vassiliou. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday October 30, 2013 at St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church, Charleston. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Wednesday. Burial will immediately follow at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, 3512 MacCorkle Avenue, SE, Charleston, WV 25304.
