Rev. Fairley McCormick Rev. Fairley McCormick, 72, of Ashford, went home to be with the Lord, November 8, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Littleton McCormick and Stella Mae Price McCormick; brothers, Arvil, Derado, and Clayton McCormick; sisters, Minnie Jewel and Christine McCormick, Phyllis Petry, Allie Alderman, Janice Young, Donna Alderman and Fay Long. Fairley retired from Kroger Warehouse, with 29 ½ years of service, and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 175. Fairley pastored at Mahome Chapel, Ashford, and the Charleston Mountain Mission for the last 21 years. For everything there is a purpose. We may not know for whom or why something so bad happens to such a great person, but God has a plan. Dad's purpose was to lead souls to the Lord. That was his job and he took it very seriously. He said he treated people as he would like to be treated, and he tried to take care of everyone. Be it by prayer, kind words, a smile a hug, or sharing Gods message. He might meet a stranger but would walk away with a new friend. He put God first and loved preaching to others about God. He wanted everyone to know the joy of serving the Lord, he wanted them to know the peace and happiness just the same as he did. He visited the sick, prayed with families, sat with the dying, and with absolutely no regrets, just hoping to lead one more soul to the Lord. He was the best husband, the best dad, and grand dad anyone could ask for. It was hard to share him but we did, so he could do the job he was called to do. Dad always said "TO GOD BE THE GLORY". It's not easy to give up a loved one, no matter how prepared we may think we are, It Hurts. But knowing my Dad and what his life was all about, is a blessing. We should not have had these last 23 months, but God had a purpose for him. So remember his smile, remember his laugh, remember his sermons and hopefully join him again someday. I am sure he will be looking for all of you. Surviving are; his loving wife of 53 years, Lou; daughters, Rosona Petry and husband, Jeff, and Melissa McCormick all of Ashford; grandchildren, Cynthia Brown and husband, Phillip of Bloomingrose, and Jeff Petry and companion Samantha Kirk of Sissonville; brothers, Jarold Knapp and wife Delores, and Larry Knapp and wife, Sonja all of Winifrede; several nieces and nephews; and adopted son, Adam Null and family. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Charleston Mountain Mission with the Rev. Adam Null and the Rev. Tom Price officiating. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery, Ashford. Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday also at the Charleston Mountain Mission.
