Obituary

Evelyn Jean White, 84, of Eleanor, WV died Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born May 22, 1929, in Gordon, WV, the daughter of the late George and Corna Kinzer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Austin "Junior" White, two daughters, Jacqueline K. White and Judith Johnson, and one sister, Glessa Elswick. Evelyn lived for many years in Dunbar, WV and was a member of Dunbar Mountain Mission. Some elementary students at Ford Elementary may also remember her as the school guard lady who helped them cross the street in the mornings and afternoons. She was a strong and courageous mother to her six children which our Dad proudly called the "six J's". She went back to school in her late 40's and received her GED and she later retired from the WV Department of Motor Vehicles. Her strength was constant and she fought the last few years as dementia stole her memories. Evelyn is survived by her son, John E. White (Linda) of Smithfield, VA; daughter Jennifer Johnson of Buffalo; son James A. White (Pam) of Charleston; Joline Brady (John) of Winfield; Janetta Cambron (Mark) of Fultondale, AL; brother George "Buddy" Kinzer (Phyllis) of Tampa, FL; sister Paulette Flowers (Kenneth) of Scott Depot; brother Paul Kinzer of South Charleston; and sister Brenda Layne of Sissonville; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Words cannot express the kind of care our mother received as a patient at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House during the past two weeks. The grace, comfort and sweet spirit of this place allowed us to laugh, talk and sing with our mother as she prepared to go to her heavenly resting place. Donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702 in memory of Evelyn. Funeral service will be Wednesday January 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with Pastor Ray Parsons officiating. Private burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
