Obituary

EVELYN FAY (RUTLEDGE) SMITH passed away on March 16th of a sudden illness. She was born on January 4, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Olvin N. Rutledge and Winnie (Robinson) Rutledge. Evelyn is mourned by her loving husband of 66 years, John W. Smith of Charleston, WV. She also leaves behind her beloved son Roger, daughter-in-law Mary, and grandsons Logan [Kelsey] of Portsmouth, VA, Luke of Chesapeake, VA and Alston of Colorado Springs, CO, sister Janice Taylor, sister-in-law Donzela Wilson and many cherished nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her son Stephen W. Smith, bothers Olvin R. Rutledge, Hobert N. Rutledge and sister Edna M. (Rutledge) Fisher. She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High school class of 1958. She attended the Chandler Dr. Church of God for many years. Beginning in 1969 and working into her 80's, she touched many lives as a lifetime teacher's aide in many Kanawha County schools. Evelyn enjoyed sunbathing, line dancing, traveling and cruising – seeing all 50 states and over 54 cruises.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th at Cunningham Parker Johnson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31st at the Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 5102 MacCorkle Ave SE, Charleston with Rev. Bart Hodel officiating. Entombment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

The family would like to thank their neighbor Amanda Newcomer and the congregation of the Church of the Nazarene for their love and care during this trying time.
