Emory Atlee Harkins, 82, of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away on November 25, 2025, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, following a sudden illness. Born on December 22, 1942, in Charleston, WV. Emory was the beloved son of the late Clarence and Beatrice Harkins.
Emory lived a full and generous life defined by love, service, and humility.
Emory was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. Emory served in the U.S. Army and later dedicated many years of hard work to Mountaineer Gas Company before retiring.
He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and purpose in serving his community.
Emory was known as a kind and selfless man who loved his family unconditionally.
He was the person everyone knew they could count on, always putting others before himself.
A man who enjoyed the thrill of a good bargain, Emory could often be found spending his weekends driving around the region, searching for treasures at local yard sales.
Emory's life journey took him from his roots in Charleston, WV to Pilot Mountain, Virginia, Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Ararat, Virginia, before settling in Poca, West Virginia. He spent his final days in Hurricane, West Virginia, following the passing of his beloved wife, Rebecca Mae Harkins.
Emory was an amazing husband, father, brother, and friend—always just a call away. He will be deeply missed by so many.
Emory is preceded in death by his amazing and loving wife Rebecca Mae Harkins, and is survived by his Son Greg Harkins and his wife Heather of Hurricane, WV, his sisters, Jenny Duff and JoAnn Young, both of Charleston, step daughters Judith Lilly of Poca, Martha Lemon of Colorado, step son Rickey Crews of Florida, and many grand children, great grand children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services to honor and celebrate Emory's life will be held at Cunningham Parker Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston on Wednesday, December 3. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m., with burial immediately following at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens.
