Elizabeth "Betty" Slater Elizabeth "Betty" Slater, 63, of Tuppers Creek, Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, May 28, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Slater. Betty enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, horseback riding and especially being with family. She was a homemaker for 40 years; after her husband's passing she started working for Mardi Gras Casino and Resort, which she enjoyed. Surviving are her children, Jesse Edward Slater, Jr, and Jennifer Elizabeth Atencio and husband, Rick, all of Tuppers Creek, Charleston; grandchildren, Carsyn, Ethan and Jordan Slater and Aaron Gross all of Elkview; loving parents, Bill and Mildred Burdette; brothers, Billy, Ralph, Mike and Gary Burdette and wife, Wilma; sister, Teresa Payne and husband, Billy, all of Tuppers Creek, Charleston; several nieces and nephews and their families; and many cousins and friends left to mourn her passing. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Robert Lacy, the Rev. Harold Boggs, and the Rev. Bill Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Boyd-Burdette Cemetery, Tuppers Creek, Charleston. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the funeral home.
